“It Doesn’t Feel Like A Win But We Showed Great Team Spirit” – Per On Everton Game.

Arsenal took on Everton in Saturday’s evening time kick-off, and although the Gunners went down 2-nil in the first half, the Gunners came back late in the second half to grab a very important draw away from home.

The match also saw the return and reintegration of our World Cup winning Germans back to the first team. Although Lukas Podolski was left out of the squad against Everton, but club record signing – Mesut Ozil and assistant captain Per Mertesacker were present and the club captain of the day revealed his delight as he made his first start for Arsenal this season.

Per Mertesacker was “proud” to be back in Arsenal colours after playing a full part of the Gunners’ 2-2 draw at Everton on Saturday.

Arsène Wenger’s side scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to snatch a point at Goodison Park and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Along with fellow World Cup winners Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski, Mertesacker only returned from his summer break last week but insists it was important to get some minutes under under his belt.

“At this stage of the season it was a good game,” he said.

“Now we have one game under our belts, we feel a bit tired but it’s vital for us.

“We need to get in our rhythm and it took a while at the start but I think we responded fantastically as a team in the second half.

“Overall we created much more in the second half and put the pressure on them all the time. That was very important for us, it doesn’t feel like a win but we showed great team spirit.

“It’s a great result for us. Last year we lost 3-0 and they were absolutely outstanding. We learnt a bit from that but in the first half our defensive movements let us down and we were a bit unfortunate with a few decisions but we left everything behind us and thought we have to play until the end.”
