Arsenal have been handed a massive transfer blow in the race for Ligue 1 duo Alexandre Lacazette and Nabir Fekir, after Lyon’s president insisted that it would cost potential suitors somewhat of a fortune for him to allow both stars leave the club this summer.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that Arsenal would have to spend in excess of £50million to sign Lacazette alone; adding that he would also demand a huge transfer fee for Fekir as well.
Arsenal and PSG are both keen on the duo but Aulas said: “PSG are not rich enough to be able to make us an offer that will make us take a step back.”
“I haven’t even imagined exactly how much clubs would have to put on the table to convince me to allow Lacazette and Fekir to leave.”
Wenger sent top scout Brian McDermott to France last week to watch the Lyon duo ahead of a £60million summer transfer raid; an offer which would not be considered enough to land the duo following the club president’s comments.
The former Reading manager watched the French giants draw 1-1 with Bordeaux last Saturday as Fekir smashed home in the ninth minute his 13th goal of the season.
This report would come as bad news to Arsenal who has singled out Lacazette for a major transfer swoop after the 23-year-old Frenchman netted a ridiculous 27 goals on 37 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.
