Arsenal have been handed a massive summer transfer blow in their pursuit of Ligue 1 star, according to reports from France.
Popular French newspaper outlet Le Parisien, claim that Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a transfer blow in their bid to secure the signature of Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, after the Ligue 1 outfit offered the defender a new deal.
Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly keen on bringing the defender to England.
In a bid to ward-off interests from the Premier League as well as across Europe, Lyon has offered the 21-year-old a significant pay-rise to tempt the Cameroon born star into extending his stay at the Stade de Gerland beyond 2017.
The no-nonsense defender has emerge as the latest Lyon player to be linked with a move away from the club, with attacking duo Alexandre Lacazette and Nabil Fekir also attracting massive interests from major clubs across Europe, with Arsenal also keen.
