Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their bid to land one of Ligue 1’s best stars this summer.
According to popular French media outlet L’Equipe, Arsenal have been cleared to complete the transfer of Monaco’s Aymen Abdennour, after he admitted he is open to a new challenge.
Arsene Wenger is interested in snapping up one of the key players of the Monaco side that stopped his team from progressing into the quarter-finals of the Uefa Champions League, and has identified Abdennour, with a bid already lined up for the defender.
The Arsenal boss is interested in signing the Tunisian international after a hugely impressive first season with the French outfit.
And the centre-back seems to be aching for a move away from the principality club with his recent comments.
Abdennour told L’Equipe: “I am ready for anything… I’d love to play for big clubs. Why not leave so I can make more progress?”
“I do not think everyone will leave. I am ready for anything.”
“I trust my President and my director. They know me, I will not put pressure on them. We respect each other, we work as a family.”
“We have held advanced discussions with several clubs,” he said.
The centre-back is tied in a contract with the Ligue 1 outfit until 2019, but has been scouted by Arsenal on a number of occasions, according to his agent.
