French Ligue 1’s 22-year-old defensive midfield power-house is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Emirates.

According to reports, Arsenal are interested in signing Marseille’s defensive midfielder Giannelli Imbula, as Arsene Wenger looks to add to his squad this summer.

And now the Gunners have stepped up their interest in signing the midfielder, with fresh report according to popular French media outlet Le10sport , that Arsenal have made contact with Giannelli Imbula’s father as they look to complete a £15.7million transfer.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who has been dubbed the “new Patrick Vieira” was ever present for Marseille last campaign, making 37 appearances in Ligue 1, helping his club to a top four finish.

Imbula looked set to join Inter Milan from Marseille in a deal that would see him earn an annual salary of £2.8m.

Arsenal are willing to match the £54,000-a-week deal offered by the Italian giants and lure the 22-year-old to London instead.

Imbula is a tenacious, defensive midfielder who would add that much needed combative element to the centre of the park for the Gunners.

Imbula is the latest in a long list of holding midfield players linked with a move to North London; Morgan Schneiderlin, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Victor Wanyama and Grzegorz Krychowiak have all been linked with Arsenal in recent weeks.

Arsenal are not the only Premier league club understood to be interested in Imbula, it is believed that aside Inter Milan, they will face competition from local rivals Tottenham, for the French international’s signature.
