Arsenal are on the lookout for top quality players ahead of next season.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a major title push next season and the boss is aware of the need to bring in only the best in the summer to achieve his target.
Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in the summer, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
According to fresh reports from Spain, Arsenal will return to Real Madrid this summer for midfield star.
Popular Spanish media outlet Fichajes.net, claim the Gunners will challenge Liverpool to complete the transfer of Madrid star Asier Illarramendi, who has recently been dubbed by Liverpool fans as the next Xabi Alonso.
Illara, 25, has struggled for game time at the Spanish capital under former boss Carlo Ancelotti, and has now been deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Rafa Benitez, hence a transfer away on the cards.
Liverpool have made contact with the defensive midfielder over a move and were thought to be the favourites.
However, there are fresh claims that Arsene Wenger is plotting to hijack the move and sign Illaramendi for the Gunners.
