Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a major title push this season and the boss is aware of the need to bring in only the best to achieve his target.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club is close to agreeing a new deal with Nacho Monreal.
It was reported that the Spanish fullback is close to agreeing a new three year contract with the Gunners that will keep him at the club until 2019.
And now the club manager has confirmed that they are close to reaching an agreement with the 29 year old with an official announcement set to follow.
“We’ll announce that at some stage, when it’s finished,” said Wenger.
“It’s not over the line completely but we’re not far.”
Goal.com however claims Spanish outfit Atletic Bilbao have a long standing interest in the 29 years old and would still be very keen on the defender despite his new contract. The report claims the Basque club still retain a little hope that they can sign the defender at the end of the current campaign.
Monreal has been a prominent member of the Gunners starting xi this season and has featured in all of the club’s league games despite having a difficult start to his Gunner’s career.
