Arsenal have suffered a major blow in their pursuit of Rennes forward Ousmane Dembele, according to reports.
Dembele, 18, who is currently having a superb season at Rennes is being monitored by a host of top clubs around Europe.
The midfielder who recently made his debut in November was scouted by the Gunners last weekend and it is thought that the club’s scout were impressed by the player. Wenger is now prepared to rival other club’s which include Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea for the forward’s signature.
The midfielder scored a superb hat-trick against Nantes on Sunday and his performance in that game also caught the attention of Chelsea and Tottenham’s scout who were also present in the game.
Although, it is believed that Bayern Munich lead the race to sign the forward but the 18 year old has revealed he would love to complete a move to Barcelona in the future.
Despite the number of big club’s chasing the forward, the French youngster has set his heart on a move to the Camp Nou as he is inspired by the likes of Neymar and Messi.
“It would be a dream to play for Barcelona,” he told beIn Sports, as quoted by the Daily Star.
“The Spanish league is really competitive. I like the German league, too, it’s really attacking.
“I’m inspired by Neymar and Messi. They’re great players.
“I try to follow their games and copy what they do in training.”
Dembele has scored nine goals in seventeen ligue 1 appearances for Rennes this season.
