Arsene Wenger has been urged to spend big in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
The French man has been criticized for his inactivity in the transfer market and reluctant to spend big sums of money on players but all that is about to change as the Sun via the Daily Star claims the club’s board have told Wenger he needs to spend big this summer.
The club is eyeing moves for some world class players and it is believed that the board have told Wenger to try to sign the likes of Paul Pogba, pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Higuain, Toni Kroos and John Stones.
Wenger spent just £10m in signing Petr Cech from Chelsea last summer while the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City spent over £100m on new signings and the report says Wenger will not be offered a new contract unless he compete with his rivals in the transfer market this summer.
It is no longer an hidden news that the club has a cash reserve up to £150m and the board wants the manager to use the money to improve the squad.
In an interview in February, Wenger confirmed that the club has money and funds will be made available should he decide to spend this summer but is immediate concern remains getting the best out of the current squad.
“I think if we want to buy at the end of the season, money will be available,” Wenger said. “But at the moment we want to influence our performances and results. The money, until the end of the season will not help us.”
