Arsenal are reportedly ready to gazump rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze. The 23-year-old German international who has been tipped for big things in football was the hero for his country when he netted the only goal of the World Cup final in Brazil two years ago.

Though injuries have played a role, he has made just 12 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga leaders this season and struggled to hold down a first-team place when fit, several reports have emerged about Gotze’s unhappiness at the Allianz Arena linking him with a move in the summer when he would have just one year left on his current contract.

Liverpool are understood to be monitoring the player’s situation after the player recently revealed that he still exchange text messages with current Reds boss Jurgen Klopp. Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, however, believes he can lure the star to the Emirates, Transfermarketnews quote German newspaper Bild via The Express as reporting that Arsenal are interested in landing the player, with Wenger judging his £31million valuation a bargain price.

With club and country teammate Thomas Muller hinting the superstar could be seeking a new club, Wenger must go all guns blazing to beat his rivals to the signature.

“I speak with Mario and think he is not 100 per cent satisfied with his situation at Bayern,” Muller told a news conference ahead of Germany’s friendly clash with England . “I am not Mario’s agent, so I am not going to speak about his future.”
