Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka has responded to reports claiming he is close to sealing a move to the Emirates.
The Swiss international who plies his trade for Borussia Monchengladbach is thought to be high on Arsene Wenger’s wishlist with the club prepared to submit a bid of £35m for his services this summer. Last week it was claimed that Wenger met with player’s representatives and has offered the midfielder a salary package worth £120,000 a week.
However, Xhaka has poured cold water on those rumours claiming there is no contact from Arsenal.
Speaking to German publication Express, via the Mirror: “I’ve seen the rumours. All I can say is it’s nonsense. There have been no negotiations with Arsene Wenger. Nothing has been agreed.
“If someone claims to have seen my father negotiating in London, they should show me the photo! No one from London has been here to negotiate.
“If someone claims otherwise, give me a call! I invite you to dinner. You can write that down for all I care!”
Xhaka has been linked with a move to Arsenal since the winter transfer window but Wenger opted to sign Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel. With Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini expected to leave the club this summer, Wenger is in need of midfield reinforcement and is keen on signing Xhaka.
