Tottenham are set to beat Arsenal to the signing of Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to reports.

Arsenal are believed to be monitoring the situation of Southampton defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama ahead of a potential summer swoop, as the Kenyan International who is also a target of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur has been impressive this season.

It is believed that the Gunners are keeping an eye on the 24-year-old tough tackler who is stalling on signing a contract extension despite entering the final year of his contract at the end of the season.

That comes with little surprise considering the former Celtic man previously asked for a transfer at the end of last season after learning of Spurs’ interest in signing him but following the loss of Morgan Schneiderlin to Manchester United last summer, Southampton boss Ronald Koeman declared there was no possibility in letting Wanyama leave the St Mary’s.

According to the Daily Mail via the Express, Tottenham are prepared to renew their interest in the Kenya international this summer.

The report also claims Wanyama will snub Arsenal’s advances as he is keen to reunite with Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

The Argentine tactician signed the Kenyan in 2013 for Southampton and it is believed that the pair have a wonderful working relationship.

Southampton who are still interested in keeping Wanyama will now be forced to sell the 24 year old to avoid losing him for free next year but the defensive midfielder will most likely now be heading to White Hart Lane instead of the Emirates.
