Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes the club needs to sign a new Centre back this summer.

Wright was speaking after the club surrendered a two goal lead at West Ham to draw 3-3. The game was characterized with defensive mistakes that saw West Ham’s Andy Caroll score a seven-minute hatrick, Wright singled out Gabriel Paulista for the teams poor defensive display and claims the centre back position is the club’s weak link.

The Brazilian was drafted into the side to partner Laurent Koscielny at the heart of defense after Mertesacker’s performance dropped in January but Gabriel’s introduction into the first team hasn’t helped the defence either and wright believes Wenger needs to sign a quality Centre back this summer.

According to Wright, the game against West Ham highlighted the team’s weak link, he told BT Sport as quoted by London24:

“It is games like West Ham where you need a bit more resilience.”

“I know Arsenal fans have been saying all season ‘we know we’ve needed a centre-half for many years.

“They’ve bought Gabriel, is he the answer? I’m not sure he is.

“And so, again, at the centre of Arsenal’s defence they’ve been weak.”

Prior to the game, Wenger was linked with a move to sign Roma Center back Kostas Manolas, it is believed that Wenger has identified the position as one he needs to strengthen and is already looking for an upgrade to partner Koscielny next season.

Arsenal have conceded 23 times away from home this season, a stat which is not good for a side that aims to win the league.
