Arsenal have been alerted by N’Golo Kante’s release clause, according to the Daily Mail.

Arsenal have been monitoring the defensive midfielder after a series of superb performances for Leicester City and Wenger has been boosted by the news that the player has a £20m release clause in his contract.

Kante is being touted as one of the best signings of last summer as Leicester City managed to bring him to England for a fee less than £6m from Caen. His performances this season has alerted the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Real Madrid but Leicester City are determined to keep hold of their prized asset.

The Foxes have already secured Champions League football and they are hoping the can convince the French international to snub interest from rivals and stay at the club.

Wenger is reportedly interested in signing a defensive midfielder as he prepares to allow Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini leave the club and the opportunity to sign Kante for as low as £20m would be very tempting for Wenger.

Kante who currently has three-year left in his current £40,000 a week deal has refused to rule out a move to a big club in the summer. Although he said he is focused at Leicester City but admitted anything can happen in football.

He said: ‘I will fight for Leicester this season and next season we never know and we will see,’ he said. ‘At this moment, I am focused on Leicester. We have to finish well this season but I don’t mind about [being linked to] the other clubs.’

The midfielder’s performances this term earned him his first call-up to the French national team and he has been shortlisted for the PFA player of the year award.
