Arsenal target Walace has revealed that he would love to move to the Serie A, landing a huge blow to Arsene Wenger who has been scouting the defensive midfielder for quite some time.

Walace plies his trade for Brazil super league side Gremio and is highly rated by the Brazilian club.

Gunners scouts have been watching the midfielder with the club reportedly offering to open talks with Gremio over the 21-year-old but the midfielder has now revealed his preference would be to remain in his homeland although he might be tempted to move to the Serie A.

According to Italian publication, Tuttosport via the Express, Serie A giants Juventus and Inter Milan are also in the race to sign the midfielder. When quizzed about the reported interest from his preferred league, the midfielder said:

“I’m happy, but I don’t want to create illusions for myself.

“My commitment on the pitch must always be equal, no matter who comes to the stadium. This is because, in the first place, I must respect a club that is an institution in Brazil.

“But obviously, I’m happy that there are great clubs interested in me.

“My preferred role? As deep-lying playmaker. I like to set things up and come forward with the ball at my feet, but I can adapt to any position in midfield.”

With midfield departures expected in the summer, Arsenal are understandably in search of reinforcements and have been linked with a host of midfielders across Europe, with the club reportedly set to complete a move for Granit Xhaka in the summer and the complication of getting a work permit for Wallace in England, the possibility of club moving for him is slim.

However, we will wait till summer to see how things unfold.
