Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehman believes Arsene Wenger should not be blamed for the team’s failures this season, via the Daily Star.
Wenger has been criticized for the team’s performance in recent months.
The team crashed out of the FA cup and Champions League in March and also fell out of the title race in recent weeks but Lehman has thrown his weight behind the French tactician amid calls from different quarters calling for the French tactician to be sacked.
Arsenal were top of the table on the first day of the year but have now fallen short in the title race and currently sit fourth, four points ahead of Manchester United in fifth place. Many have pointed fingers to Wenger but Lehman believes his former boss should be spared and given the chance to work.
“I only know that Arsene Wenger was the most successful manager in world football at buying and selling,” Lehman said.
“Has he lost that? Well Cech was a good buy and if it was so easy than everyone could do it. You can’t get me into any criticism of Wenger.
“I’m not on the Arsenal board so can’t comment on his future. I’d prefer to see them winning the league as would everyone who’s involved with Arsenal.”
Lehman was part of the Arsenal invincibles which won the club its last league title.
