The essence of quickly wrapping up transfers and having a settled squad before the start of the season cannot be overstated hence the news that the Gunners are already in discussions with a forward should be exciting, however, the target in question leaves a lot to be desired.
Wenger’s surprise interest in Fulham striker Kostas Mitroglou was initially reported by A Bola sometime last week and now Portuguese publication Record via the Express claim a deal for the forward is progressing.
The new report says Arsenal have held talks with Fulham and Mitroglou’s representatives and a fee in the region of £5.5million has been discussed.
The Greek international who is currently on loan at Benfica for this campaign has been impressive and has bagged 19 goals in 28 appearances for the Portuguese side. The paper goes on to add that Benfica currently have the first refusal on the 28-year-old, but convincing the striker to move to the Emirates shouldn’t proof too problematic for Wenger.
A move for the striker will definitely not go down well with the Gooners who have been demanding the gaffer splash the cash to bring in a world-classR centre-forward that takes the team to the next level. The striker’s dismal stint in the Premier League just two seasons ago after Fulham broke their transfer record to sign him for £14million is still very fresh in memory.
