Arsene Wenger has admitted the club lacks a world class striker capable of scoring 20+ goals a season, via the Metro. The French man was analyzing the club’s failed attempt to win the Premier League title and he pointed out the lack of efficiency in attack as the team’s major problem. The team has the least goals scored by a top four team and one could easily see why Wenger believes scoring goals was the club’s major problem this term.
The strikers haven’t helped the case as Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck all have 20 league goals between them this season.
‘Our passing has to be quicker, our movement has to be sharper and our efficiency in the final third has to be better,’ Wenger told Sky Sports
‘We don’t have anybody with 20 goals in the league, so that is a handicap.’
Wenger also admitted guilt for failing to challenge for the title, the Gunners were heavily touted to win the Premier League trophy after seeing other traditional big teams failing to live up to expectation in the early part of the season but the team blew the chance away.
Wenger’s men were top of the table on new year day but series of inconsistent performances have brought the team to fourth position five points above fifth place Manchester United who has played a game less.
‘It’s very simple. We all feel guilty and we are all looked at like it’s a shame we are not winning the league because Leicester are at the top,’ he said.
‘But on the other hand, you have to say Leicester have not stolen the points. They have earned them, they have quality.
‘If you look at the PFA Team of the Year, they have many players in there, so they are good players.’
