Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed French international Olivier Giroud will start next summer as Arsenal’s first-choice striker.
With the Absence of England international Danny Welbeck due to a long-term injury, Giroud is expected to be Arsenal’s frontman for next season after a superb performance against Aston Villa, scoring a hat-trick on the final day of the season.
The 29-year-old went on a dry spell of 15 Premier League games without a goal, he broke the jinx on Sunday to cement his place in Arsene Wenger’s plan for next season.
“Yes,” Wenger told the BBC when asked if he anticipates Giroud starting next season as his primary striker.
“I believe that Danny Welbeck being out now for a long, long time we will be on the road to look for one more striker.
“After that it’s down to compete. Olivier has strong and weak moments so we have to deal with that.
“He is a bit unbelievable – he is in cycles. He scores in spells and then sometimes he scores less,” Wenger added.
