Wojciech Szczesny Roma’s career has been thrown into serious doubts by Arsenal’s demand, according to reports in Italy.

Szczesny who joined the Italian side on loan last summer had a wonderful campaign with the club this season which made the Italian club consider the idea of signing the player permanently.

However, the Italian club had to reconsider their decision as the fee quoted by Arsenal was too high for them. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport via Sports Witness, AS Roma were told to submit a bid of €20m if they were to have a chance of signing the goalkeeper permanently.

The Italian club opted against signing Szczesny for that fee and are now close to completing a move for Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Alisson is set to undergo medicals at the Italian club this week and the report claims the Italian club has promised the new signing a first team spot.

The report reckons Szczesny relationship with Roma boss Luciano Spalletti means the Poland goalie could still have a future in Rome. AS Roma might now be interested in signing the goalkeeper on loan for another season with the option to buy at the end of the loan deal but the Italian club wants that amount to be less than €20m.

Szczesny on his own part doesn’t want to return to the Emirates to act as a backup option to Petr Cech and the Pole had always stressed his desire to remain at Rome but Arsenal demands are said to have frustrated things.

Szczesny was a key member of Roma squad this season making up to 31 League appearances and helping the club to the third position on the Serie A log table.
