Arsenal could announce the signing of Nigeria U17 midfielder Kelechi Nwakali in the coming days, according to the player’s agent.
Arsenal had already agreed to sign the midfielder in March and with the youngster set to mark his 18th birthday in two weeks time, his representative Alwell Nwakali is preparing to fly to London to put finishing touches to the deal expected to take his brother to the Emirates.
Alwell Nwakali is also confident his brother will be given work permit to play for Arsenal as the club’s chiefs have already given them assurances.
The soon to be 18 year old midfielder will put pen to paper on a five year deal with the club when he completes 18 in a fortnight.
“Arsenal gave Kelechi permission to come for international duty. I have spoken to Arsenal and they have been asking me when he’s going to return, ” Allwell Nwakali told allnigeriasoccer.com .
“As soon as he is free he will go back to Arsenal, June 5th he will be 18 and become an Arsenal player officially. Arsenal only gave him a pre- contract.
“After the return leg against Burundi, he will have to go back to Arsenal and finish up before returning to Nigeria for the qualifiers.”
Allwell Nwakali added : “They have stopped giving special talents automatic work permits. Wenger said he will do his best so Kelechi gets a work permit by the Grace of God.
“He is in Wenger’s plans, he will do his best to make sure he plays for Arsenal.”
Kelechi Nwakali was the best player in the U17 FIFA world cup held in Chile last year. Arsenal had to fight off competitions from several European giants to secure the services of the talented midfielder.
