Arsenal have received a timely boost in its pursuit for AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas, according to report.
Wenger is reportedly keen on strengthening his defense this summer and is looking to sign a centre-back to partner Koscielny next season. Greek defender Kostas Manolas appears to be high on Wenger’s wish list and the French man has just received a timely boost as he attempts to lure one of Serie A’s best defenders to the Premier League.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal now have a clear path to sign the defender as Chelsea who were also interested in the 24-year-old has abandoned their attempts to sign the defender.
The report claims the Blues are focusing on signing Manolas teammate Radja Naigollan hence freeing the way for Wenger to firm up his pursuit for the highly-rated centre-back.
Wenger is very familiar with Manolas as the French man tried to sign him two summers ago but Roma was able to beat Wenger to the services of the defender.
Arsenal have also been linked with other Centre backs which includes Bayern Munich’s Mehdi Benatia and Roma’s Rob Holdings but no doubt Wenger would be excited at being in the pole position to sign Manolas.
