Wenger seems to be very interested in signing a left back this summer transfer window. The French man is said to be seeking a replacement for Kieran Gibbs who is unsettled at the club after falling behind Nacho Monreal in the club’s pecking order. Gibbs is said to have informed Wenger of his decision to leave the Emirates and the French tactician is willing to grant the former Arsenal academy star his wish only if the club finds a replacement.

According to kicker via the Metro, Arsenal’s search for a left back has taken them to Germany as the club are seriously trying to sign Wolfsburg full-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is regarded as one of the best-left backs in the world as he has consistently proven his quality in the last couple of years.

It is believed that the player has a release clause of £19m and Arsenal are interested in activating the clause in order to bring the 23-year-old to the Emirates.

Rodriguez himself acknowledged that a move to Arsenal would appeal to him due to his close friendship with the recently signed Granit Xhaka.

“That would be exciting, yes, especially because the room arrangement at Arsenal would be fixed as well.”

Sporting director Klaus Allofs  confirmed Rodriguez is now determined to leave in summer, according to Blick

“As we have recently talked it was clear; his idea is to leave us.”

Rodriguez is an international teammate of Arsenal new boy Granit Xhaka and it would be interesting should Arsenal complete a double swoop on the Switzerland national team.
