Arsenal are close to completing a deal for Flying Eagles captain Kelechi Nwakali, according to reports in Nigeria.
The midfield is set to finalize his move to the Emirates as he prepares to travel to London.
Arsenal had reportedly agreed a deal for the midfielder since March but he was unable to sign on the dotted line due to FIFA rules which prevents non-EU players less than 18 years old to sign football terms.
Nwakali celebrated his 18th birthday on Sunday June 5th and is now eligible to sign a professional contract with the Gunners.
CEO of ASJ academy in Nigeria Emeka Amajiriaku has now revealed the player and his representatives are preparing to travel to London to finalize Nwakali’s move to Arsenal.
“Kelechi donated to ASJ two sets of jerseys and Chidi donated 14 pairs of boots to mark his birthday, ” Amajiriaku said to allnigeriasoccer.com.
“His absence was felt, Chidiebere decided to honor his brother, he hosted the birthday in his absence. All ASJ players clustered in his house in celebration of the birthday, everyone is happy.”
He added : “I am speaking from the management angle, Kelechi is now 18. Allwell, Kelechi and his mother are preparing to travel to London to finish up the whole deal, to put everything right in conjunction with Diamond Academy.”
Nwakali is currently on international duty with the Nigeria U20 squad and is expected to sign a five year deal with the Gunners as soon as he returns from international duty.
