Ex Arsenal star Robert Pires has urged the club to do whatever it will take to convince Jamie Vardy to make the switch to the Emirates.
The Gunners recently activated the player’s release clause and are currently waiting for him to make a decision on his future. It is believed that the striker is leaning towards staying at Leicester City but Pires wants the Gunners to push harder to sign Vardy.
Despite the player closing in on his thirties, Pires believes the striker has the quality to be a success at the Emirates stadium. Speaking to Sportsmail, he said: ‘There is no reason why it couldn’t work out for Vardy. He scored a lot of goals in the Premier League last season and is now known around the world.
‘He has the ability, comes across as very hard-working which Arsenal like, and he’s a great finisher. There’s a lot more pressure with playing for a big club, so it will be a step up.’
Vardy scored 24 league goals for Leicester last season including three against Arsenal and many are keen to see the striker scoring for Arsenal next year.
Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri recently admitted that the Foxes are doing everything possible to keep Vardy but the striker hasn’t made his decision yet, adding the player will have the final say on his future.
“We want to keep him, Arsenal have said they will pay the full release clause, but he hasn’t accepted yet. He gets the last word,” the Italian manager said.
