Chelsea have stepped up its attempts to beat Arsenal to the signature of Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, according to reports.
The Spanish no 9 had been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates but that has since died down as Wenger turned his attentions to Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy. With Vardy yet to make a decision on his future, Wenger is said to be working on other targets incase Vardy decides to snub a move to the Emirates. Morata still remains on the French man’s list but it seems the club has now gone behind in the race to sign Morata.
According to Spanish newspaper AS via the Independent, Morata favors a move to Manchester United or Chelsea and will now snub a move to Arsenal or PSG.
It is believed the Spanish man is keen on a reunion with Jose Mourinho and is also open to the idea of working under Antonio Conte who was instrumental in his move to Turin two years ago. Arsenal had appeared to be leading the race to sign the striker before now but a move for Jamie Vardy now indicates the club has other priorities.
Chelsea have now contacted Real Madrid who are expected to resign the player this summer and the West London club are now leading the race to sign Morata, via the Express.
Arsenal would now have to turn their options to other targets should Vardy reject a move to the Emirates as the chances of signing Morata have reduced in the last few weeks.
