Chelsea and Arsenal are set to go head to head in the race to sign Lille forward Sofiane Boufal, according to Sports Review.
Lille are prepared to sell Boufal this summer and the 22-year-old playmaker is believed to be available for around €25m.
Arsenal and Chelsea monitored the player during the course of last season and have now indicated their willingness to meet Lille’s €25m asking price.
However, the English duo are not alone in the race to sign the player as his agent recently confirmed interest from Spain. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also very keen on the playmaker and would rival the English club for the player.
“We did have a meeting with the leadership of FC Barcelona in the last few weeks. There is an interest,” Yvan Le Mée told Le10 sport . “Now the reflection is whether Sofiane Boufal will go to Barcelona to compete with MSN (Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar) or should he go to a club where he is going to start matches and express his exceptional talent.
“We have also initiated discussions with three other clubs that interest us, but they either have or will change their coach or the coach is in charge of a national team at the Euros. In England, there is interest, but the English market is just beginning. A transfer of 20 and 25 million euros is not resolved in two weeks, of course.”
PSG who are expected to appoint a new manager this week could also join the race to sign the player.
Boufal scored 11 league goals for Lille last season and was crowned the best African player in the French Ligue 1
