Arsenal are preparing to open talks with Arsene Wenger over a new deal, according to reports.
Wenger currently has one year left in his contract and is yet to enter negotiations on a new deal. He is currently being linked with the England job with the FA reportedly prepared to wait for him until his contract expires next summer to appoint him as the next England boss. Arsenal are now looking to spoil England’s plans by offering Wenger a new deal.
According to the Daily Mail via the Express, Arsenal chiefs are not prepared to lose Wenger anytime soon and will make a move to extend his contract.
The report also claims, despite the club’s wish to keep Wenger, they don’t want a situation where the fans are against the manager and will wait till next season before entering into negotiations. Arsenal’s start to next season and the fans relationship with Wenger will be crucial to negotiations.
It is believed Wenger would be open to the idea of managing the England national team and it remains to be seen if the French man will turn down a new contract at the Emirates in favor of taking over the Three Lions.
Wenger has been Arsenal’s manager since 1996 and the French man has hinted in the past that his time at the Emirates is gradually coming to an end as he is not prepared to stay as long as Sir Alex Ferguson did at Manchester United.
