Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed he still wants to sign a striker and a defender this summer but will take his time in doing so.
Earlier in the summer, the French tactician had revealed he is looking to sign a maximum of three first team players this summer but has only completed the signing of Granit Xhaka along with two youngsters.
Wenger has now pledged to spend more money this summer should the right players be available and he is keen to strengthen his defensive and attacking positions.
“We look still for an offensive position and defensive position,” Wenger said, as quoted by ESPN. “We are very active on the transfer market but it’s a long time to go. Everybody has a handbrake on at the moment. It’s a little bit of a poker game until mid-August in my opinion. So we might have to be good at poker.”
Arsenal are currently being linked with Olympic Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and it is believed Wenger is prepared to spend as much as £40m for his services. The club have also been linked with the likes of Kostas Manolas and Kalidou Koulibaly as Wenger reportedly searches for a long term replacement to Per Mertesacker. Wenger’s statement is definitely an exciting news for the Gooners who are keen to see the club spend big this summer.
