Arsenal have lost out in the race to sign Gonzalo Higuain.
The Gunners were chasing the 28 year old striker but have lost out on his signature to Italian giants Juventus. The striker joined the Serie A club for a fee of £75.3m, signing a five year deal worth about €8m per year.
Arsenal were believed to have tabled a bid of about €60m + Olivier Giroud which the Italian club rejected as they were holding out for the player’s release clause. Arsenal were reluctant to match the clause and subsequently pulled out of the race to sign the Argentine striker.
Higuain is now the third most expensive signing in football behind Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Arsenal are still in the market to sign a striker this summer and the club have already made move to sign Olympic Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.
Higuain is the second striker the club have missed out on this summer after Jamie Vardy snubbed a move to the Emirates in favour of signing a new deal at Leicester City.
Wenger has always stated he is prepared to sign a striker this summer but would only do so at the right price and it is no surprise he pulled out of the race to sign Higuain.
