Guinea midfielder Naby Keita has revealed Arsene Wenger contacted him before he made a move to his new club RB Leipzig
Arsenal have signed a number of promising youngsters already this summer and Wenger attempted to Keita to his ranks but the player revealed he chose a move to Leipzig despite Wenger calls due to the relationship between himself and Leipzig’s sporting director, Ralf Rangnick.
“I only had contact with Arsene Wenger, who spoke French to me,” Keita said.
“Ralf has treated me like a son. He came to France in 2014 to sign me for Salzburg and I trust him entirely,” Keita added. “I joined RB because it is an exciting club with great potential. I didn’t want to move to a big Champions League club immediately. It’s still too early.”
The player also stressed he is not thinking about a move away from Leipzig now but hoped in two or three years he will be ready for a big move.
“I have not played in a competitive match for RB. Why should I already talk about leaving? I do hope that in two, three years I will be on a level to be able to play for one of the big clubs.
“Right now, I don’t busy myself with it, because my focus is on RB and Bundesliga. But someday, and that is my big goal, I want to be the best African footballer.”
Wenger seems to have taken keen interest in scouting the Africa continent for quality youngsters, he recently completed the signing of Kelechi Nwakali and has recently been linked with a number of youngsters from the continent.
