Arsene Wenger has claimed his team has the quality and mentality to win the league title this season.

The manager’s claims came after the club’s 4-1 win over Hull City at the KCOM stadium on Saturday. It was an impressive victory and Wenger has hailed his side’s performance, backing them to finally end the club’s 12 year wait for a title this season.

The win was Arsenal’s third consecutive league wins and it was the club’s second in which it has scored three goals or more. Wenger is now confident the team has removed any doubt they are good enough to challenge for the title this year.

“This is a statement victory,” said Wenger. “We scored three at Watford, we scored four against Hull. We played 0-0 at Leicester, but we had two or three opportunities. Away from home we look more convincing at the moment than at home.

“I believe that, when we lost our first game, it was a mental shock for us and for our supporters. Straight away you have a little bit of scepticism and doubt, you know, in your head. So it was important for us to win the Southampton game and hopefully now we can have the same quality at home.

“Look, the positivity comes from us, from our attitude. We have to think that we get the supporters behind us, when our performances are convincing and not the other way around.”

Many fans are hoping the club improve on its second place finish of last season by winning the league title this year, having missed out on it for more than a decade. In fairness to Wenger, he didn’t really have a squad capable of winning the title these past 12 years but things have began to change. The club have been able to keep its best players in recent years and the manager has strengthened strategically. One could say this is the Frenchman’s best squad in the last decade and should he get things right, there is a chance the team can win the title come May next year.

The team will face some challenges that would test it’s title credentials as the season progresses and the first of those challenges will come this weekend when we host Chelsea at the Emirates. Should the team claim all three points, it will send strong signals to all other title rivals that this year could be our year.
