Arsenal target Julian Draxler will be up for sale next summer, according to his agent.
Wenger is a big admirer of the winger and we have been linked with him for an enternity. Reports claimed we were prepared to pay as much as £50m for the German in the summer but Wolfsburg were not prepared to sell him.
We weren’t the only ones in the race to sign the winger as Juventus and Paris Saint Germain were also interested but Wolfsburg held firm.
The winger’s agent Fabio Parisi has now thrown more light on the speculations, revealing that his client was close to a move to PSG in the summer. The agent also went ahead to say the player would certainly leave Wolfsburg next summer preferably to Juventus which would come as a huge blow to as many of us who want to see him in an Arsenal shirt.
“Max Allegri had spoken to Draxler, they were in sync and there was an immediate rapport between them, the agent said.
“Wolfsburg have strong owners, but unfortunately for the German fans, everyone wants to leave there. Over the summer Draxler was on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain, who had offered nearly €65m (£59m).
“He will definitely leave Wolfsburg at the end of the season. He would’ve gladly run to join Juve and is the ideal trequartista for Allegri.
“I repeat: Draxler will leave, but whether or not Juventus are interested again is another matter.
“I think the Bianconeri can still spend big money, as their revenue is close to that of the top European clubs.
“The very real profit made on Paul Pogba will have an effect on their balance sheets for the next few years, allowing Beppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici to make more investments.”
The agent’s comments indicate we were not close to signing the player in the summer as Juventus and PSG were ahead in the race to sign him. That is not expected to deter Wenger as the French man has reportedly tried to sign the winger in the last two windows and might still try again next summer.
It is likely Wenger would be on the lookout for a new wide man next summer should Alexis Sanchez impress in his new role as a centre forward this season which would open up the possibility of making a move for Draxler. Until then, we have to focus on our current players helping us win the league.
