FC Porto left-back Alex Telles is attracting interest from Arsenal, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
We have been linked with a lot of left backs in the last few months and just recently our scouts were reportedly present at Celtic’s game monitoring the Scottish side’s left-back Kieran Tierney.
Wenger appears keen on strengthening the left back position knowing fully well that Kieran Gibbs future is far from certain while Nacho Monreal is getting older by the day. Monreal is our current first choice left back but he is already 30 and in a position where stamina and speed is vital, he could fade away anytime soon. So it is actually not surprising that we are on the look out for a new full back.
Telles is a young versatile defender who can also play on the left wing. He joined FC Porto from Galatasaray for around £5.6m. Prior to his move to Porto, he was linked with Chelsea and PSG. He has hit the ground running at the Portuguese club, thereby attracting our interest.
However, It would be almost impossible for us to sign him next summer as Porto will be reluctant to sell a player just 12 months after signing him. That is not to say we won’t be able to sign him should we step up our interest but it would be better we keep our options open and explore other targets, knowing fully well that Porto wouldn’t want to let a player they just signed leave on a cheap.
