Arsenal star Alex Iwobi says he has been inspired by Mesut Ozil’s comments about him.

The Nigerian international has been impressive since he was promoted to the first team. He has surprised many with his performances, the manager, fans, pundits in one time or the other have been left in awe with his performances.

Mesut Ozil is the latest to praise Iwobi, calling him a mixture of Jay Jay Okocha and Edgar Davids. The young midfielder has now revealed Ozil’s comment left him in a state of shock.

Reacting to the German midfielder’s comments, Iwobi said:

“Mesut just tells me that I’m young and need to express myself on the pitch.

“Obviously I need to listen to other people’s advice as well, but he tells me to always play with a smile on my face and enjoy the game.

“When I saw [his comments comparing me to Jay-Jay Okocha and Edgar Davids] I was like, ‘Wow is he serious?’ because he never really says that much to me.

“He just gives me advice and help, but it’s such a confidence boost for such a great player to say that about me.”

Iwobi is now a regular in the starting xi and judging from the level of his performances one can say he does merit his place in the team. The midfielder has featured prominently for us this season and he was also brilliant for the team against Swansea City yesterday as he helped us to a 3-2 win.

The midfielder is still learning the game and like he stated, he needs to keep taking good advice from people. He is a player who is destined for the top and all he needs is to keep his head down and work hard.
