Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed he snubbed rivals to join us in 2011.

Chamberlain joined us from Southampton five years ago amidst huge fanfare. The England international had built a reputation of one of the brightest talents in Southampton academy at that time and many clubs were interested in signing him.

Chamberlain has now revealed his dad Mark Chamberlain held talks with former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and Tottenham but chose to join us after his father saw Arsene Wenger’s vision.

“I had a phone call from Sir Alex,” Mark said on Sky’s Goals on Sunday show. “I think Tottenham were interested.

“Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool, Tottenham. Not bad, not bad at all.”

The player also said that he personally wanted to join us because he was a fan while growing up.

He added: “I’ve always liked Arsenal and growing up watching the way they played and the whole feel of the club, it just seemed like something I’d love to be a part of.

“I think obviously, Arsene, to be part of it, he is one in the process, he seemed like he knew the most about me.

“When my dad spoke to Arsene he seemed to have a vision for me and a bit more insight into where he thought I could go and what he wanted for me.

“That was almost like the icing on the cake and then from then on it was an easy decision.”

Chamberlain’s decision to snub our rivals to join us at that time was celebrated by many fans. However, the winger has failed to fulfill the potential that saw the club scramble for his signature as injuries and consistency have halted his development.

Wenger had showed faith in the winger over the years but reports now claim the boss is getting frustrated with the England international. It is believed this is Chamberlain’s last chance to impress at Arsenal and we are hoping he will be able to get his career back on track this year.
