Santi Cazorla believes we have what it takes to win the Premier League title this season having missed out on England’s biggest prize in the last 12 years.
We have started this season in fine form winning our last six league games. The superb form has catapulted us to the top of the league table, only behind Manchester City on goal difference.
There is a growing belief in some quarters that this could be our year and Cazorla has supported those beliefs. The midfielder believes we have found the consistency needed to win the title which we lacked in previous years.
“We have started the season in a good way. We are having a good run but it is a very long season. We have to go step by step. It is clear that we want to fight [for the Premier League title]. We have always said we needed to give a step forward. We have started well and we are being more consistent. That’s what we lacked in previous seasons,” the Spaniard said to IBTimes UK.
The midfielder predicts a tough title race but believes the team who fails the least will be champions come May next year.
“We have taken a step forward in games like [the victory over] Swansea to get the three points. In previous years we dropped points at home in this kind of game and at the end of the season it cost us the title,” Cazorla added. “There is a long way to go but it is true that we have set that goal [fighting for the Premier League]. But the table is very tight. Manchester City, Chelsea, United… all will be there this season. Liverpool and Tottenham are especially strong. All the big ones will be fighting so I think the one that fails the least will take the Premier League title.”
Wenger has reportedly made winning the Premier League his priority this season and will definitely be happy with the team’s performances so far. The boss worked throughout the summer to address the issues that have made us fail to win the league title all these years and one can conveniently say we now have a good chance of ending our title drought as our squad is definitely the best we’ve had in a long time.
