Lucas Perez has played down reports linking him with a move away from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Reports recently claimed Wenger wants to send the striker out on loan in the new year and the Serie A was touted as a possible destination for the 28-year-old.
Although, the report sounded a bit ridiculous to some of us from the onset as the player only joined us in the summer, we weren’t sure what to think about it because his stint so far has not been successful, leaving the door open for a move.
However, Perez has now clarified doubts surrounding his Arsenal future by insisting he is happy at the Emirates. The striker admitted there is competition for places within our squad but insisted he wants to stay and fight for a place in the first team.
“There is plenty of competition to get one spot in the line up, which is great for the team,” he told Arsenal’s official website .
“Not only the strikers are fighting for a place, but also defenders or midfielders.
“Our squad is hungry to play and you can see that in every training.
“I already knew Alexis very well, I’ve seen him play a lot for his club and country. He is quick, skilful on the ball and a great guy.
“He is very kind and I have an excellent relationship with him. I hope we can go on like this.
“Giroud is a real extrovert and funny guy. He has been really nice with me from the very first day. He is a great striker.
“He protects the ball with his body superbly and offers many solutions to his team-mates.
“Theo is a very well known player. I was hugely impressed by him.
“He is quick, takes on players and he is scoring many goals because he is very clinical when it comes to finishing.
“He is having a great season and that´s great for us as a team.”
However, Perez will now have to work harder for game time because his chances to impress will be limited after we were dumped out of the EFL cup on Wednesday night. The number of games we will be playing from now will reduce, hence his chances of playing. So he would have to make the most of any opportunity he gets.
