Summer signing Rob Holding has revealed how Calum Chambers convinced him to move to the Emirates in the summer.

The England U21 international moved to Arsenal in the summer transfer window for a fee of about £2.5m from Bolton Wanderers and it was one of the first deals the club completed that window.

Arsenal scouts monitored the defender on numerous occasions last season and Wenger decided to make a move for the defender after his impressive performances for Bolton last season.

He has now admitted that he was unsure about a move to Arsenal until a discussion with Chambers in the U21 camp helped him make up his mind.

Holding told Arsenal’s website: “I’d seen everything – it was all paper talk.

“There were people with things on Twitter saying, ‘He’s linked here, he’s linked there,’ but I think the concrete one that I knew, that my agent told me, was that Arsenal were interested.

“I was like, ‘wow, Arsenal are interested in me,’ so that was one that I wanted to push forward.

“Then when I went away with England in the summer to Toulon, I spoke to Calum Chambers and he said Arsenal is a great club – ‘if it happens for you, it would be great to have you there’.”

Holding has proven to be a shrewd signing and gave a good account of himself in the first few games of the season. Upon his arrival, he quickly moved ahead of Calum Chambers in the pecking order and showed he has the ability to play a key role for Arsenal in the future.

I’m sure he is happy he made the switch to Arsenal and now that he is here, he will have to focus on improving as a player, while waiting for first team chances.
