Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s contract talks is in danger of collapse as the duo are demanding a salary package which is way out of Arsenal’s wage structure, according to Standard Sport.
Ozil and Sanchez are already into the penultimate year of their contracts and have been in negotiations over a new deal with Arsenal since August. Almost four months after opening talks, an agreement doesn’t appear close and many have been left to wonder why talks with the players are taking too long to complete.
Standard Sport has now thrown light into the situation and their revelation will definitely shock Gooners.
According to the popular sports tabloid, Ozil and Sanchez wants to be among the top earners in the Premier League and are holding out for a huge increase to their current salaries.
The report claims the duo wants to be on par with Manchester United signing Paul Pogba who is currently earning £290,000 a week, the highest in the Premier League. It also added that the players believe they are one of the best players in the world and want a salary package that will reflect their status in world football.
This sounds ridiculous because Ozil and Sanchez currently earns a weekly salary of £140,000 and £130,000 respectively. Meeting their reported demands means we will have to more than double their current salary which will be a difficult thing to do.
It is widely reported that Arsenal are prepared to offer the players a new, improved deal worth around £200,000 a week which is way short of what the players are reportedly demanding.
If this report is true, then there is no hope that the player’s future will be sorted out anytime soon and this doesn’t bode well for Arsenal because the players may be tempted to move away if another clubs come offering them a blank cheque.
