Arsenal are interested in signing West Ham youngster Declan Rice, according to reports.
The winter transfer window is barely a month away, the rumour mill is already on overdrive and Arsenal are being linked with a host of star players. Rice is the second Hammer player after Dimitri Payet to be linked with a move to the Emirates in the last few days.
The 17-year-old who plays as a centre-back has reportedly caught Wenger’s attention with his performances for West Ham’s U23.
The youngster is highly rated at West Ham and is currently the captain of their reserve side despite his young age.
According to The Sun via The Daily Express, Wenger is planning to tempt the defender into moving to the Emirates.
The report claims Arsenal scouts have been watching Rice for a long time and are convinced he has the potential to develop into a quality defender.
However, the young man will not come cheap, it will take a huge bid to force West Ham’s hand into selling as he still has three years left in his contract and the Hammers won’t be under any pressure whatsoever to sell their prize assets.
Arsenal have a history of being lucky with youngsters and maybe that would have a big influence in Rice’s decision making, if it comes down to him.
It is not as though we are short of quality options in defense but a great club always think about the future and Rice will definitely be regarded as a recruitment for the future if we are successful in signing him.
