Arsenal have failed with a bid to sign Red Bull Salzburg defender Dayot Upamecano, according to a report in Tribal Football.
This is according to Spanish newspaper Sport which claims the young defender snubbed a move to Arsenal and is holding out for a dream move to Barcelona.
Arsenal submitted an official offer for the defender last week but the player personally rejected the move.
It is claimed he favors a switch to Barcelona and will prefer to wait for the Spanish giants to come calling for his services.
The Camp Nou side are reportedly keeping tabs on the youngster and he is aware of their interest. Upamecano who is still 18 years old is regarded as the next big thing in France and Arsenal have been monitoring his development since his time at Valenciennes but the prospect of moving to Barcelona has turned his head.
It is rare to see a French player snub a move to the Emirates as we have enjoyed so much success in the past working with French players but Barcelona’s interest has made it difficult for us to sign Upamecano.
I don’t think Wenger will be too disappointed with the defender’s decision considering we have enough young talents with great potential as well in our academy.
Arsenal signed Rob Holding from Bolton last summer and the young man has already proven he has the potential to be one of the best defenders in the future.
