Alexis Sanchez is set to reject a new Arsenal contract after months of negotiations, according to reports.
Arsenal have been in talks with Sanchez over a contract extension since August and talks have dragged on longer than expected.
Few days ago Club secretary David Miles claimed talks with the player was going as planned and expressed optimism that an agreement will soon be reached but fresh reports are now suggesting Gooners who want to see the forward extend his stay at the club will have to wait a little longer.
According to The Daily Mail, Arsenal have offered Sanchez a new deal worth a £180,000 weekly but the Chilean has rejected the deal, holding out for at least £250,000 a week.
Arsenal are reportedly unwilling to pay the forward more than £200,000 a week and it appears the player doesn’t want to reduce his demands either. However negotiations between both parties are expected to continue and the club will continue to convince the player to reduce his demands.
Sanchez has become Arsenal’s main man this season and the striker reportedly wants the new deal to reflect his status as one of the league’s best players.
The striker currently has an offer from China which is worth £400,000-a-week and he is currently using that as a leverage in negotiations with Arsenal.
While it isn’t a crime for the player to ask to be one of the highest paid in the league, he should realise that Arsenal work with a strict budget and it will be almost impossible for us to pay him as much as he is asking for.
I do think a new contract worth around £200,000 is a fair deal and hopefully the player will realise this, reduce his demands and agree terms with the club.
