Hector Bellerin snubbed interest from Manchester City to sign a new deal at Arsenal, the Guardian has revealed.

Bellerin signed a new six and half deal with Arsenal last month and it has now emerged that the defender snubbed serious interest from Man City to sign a new contract here.

Prior to putting pen to paper on a new deal, Bellerin was linked with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City but The Guardian has now revealed that City were the most interested in the defender.

Guardiola had identified the Spaniard as his priority target and City made moves to sign him by contacting his agent but were rebuffed by the defender who had no interest in leaving the Emirates.

The Etihad giants were not prepared to take a “no” for an answer and kept on pushing for a deal. They offered the defender a huge pay cheque and indicated they were ready to meet Arsenal’s demands but the player wasn’t tempted.

Bellerin knew Arsenal were not ready to sell him at any price and he wasn’t prepared to leave the Emirates either, making City’s attempt to sign him dead on arrival.

The report claimed Bellerin wanted to stay at Arsenal for many reasons which included a sense of loyalty to Wenger and the club at large. The defender didn’t forget how he became a top player out of nothing and how everyone at the club stood by him in his early days.

The player also didn’t want to put his career in danger by leaving Arsenal considering many ex Gunners had flopped after leaving the Emirates for a big rival club.

To the delight of Arsenal fans, the defender signed a new long term deal worth £115,000 a week despite knowing he could have earned more elsewhere. This little act and show of loyalty has and will definitely endear the defender more to  hearts of Gooners.

The Spain international has shown he is a rare specie left in football as there are very little number of footballers in this world who will ignore lucrative offers from other big clubs because of loyalty to their current club. Bellerin is the man! A future Arsenal legend.
