Arsenal are set to join Chelsea in the race to sign Genoa attacking midfielder Diego Laxalt, according to reports.
Lazalt who usually plays on the left wing, although equally adept to playing as a central attacking midfield has been one of Serie A’s stand out performers this season and the Genoa playmaker’s form has reportedly caught the attention of some of England’s biggest clubs.
Last week, Laxalt’s agent revealed Chelsea have been monitoring his progress and also Antonio Conte’s interest in taking the player to Stamford Bridge but Tutto Mercato Web via The Metro has now mentioned Arsenal as another club interested in the playmaker.
The report suggests Wenger is keen on strengthening his attacking midfield position and sees Laxalt as a quality acquisition.
It wasn’t mentioned if Arsenal will be making a move in the winter transfer window but if the comments made by the player’s agent last week is anything to go by, interested clubs will have to wait until the end of the season before having a chance to sign the player.
Italian papers have constantly linked Arsenal with a host of Serie A players in the past, only for it to turn out that we were never interested in the said players. It remains to be seen if Laxalt’s case will be different but I doubt it will be, considering Wenger hasn’t really been interested in the Serie A market in the past.
