Former England international Ray Wilkins believes Arsenal should sell Alexis Sanchez if he refuses to sign a new contract.
Sanchez has been in talks with Arsenal over a new contract since August but both parties have not been able to reach a compromise.
Yesterday, The Daily Mail claimed Arsenal have offered the forward a new deal worth around £180,000 a week which has been rejected by the player who is holding out for as much as £250,000 weekly and Wilkins has now urged Wenger to sell Sanchez if they can get a huge fee for his services.
In an interview with Talksport via HITC Sport, Wilkins says Arsenal should set an £80m asking price for the striker if negotiations continue to drag on.
“If Arsenal are looking and the Chinese are coming in with those kind of offers, I reckon that’s £80m for Sanchez. That’s Arsenal’s get out,” he told talkSPORT.
Chinese clubs have already begun to circle around Sanchez and i’m sure they won’t have any problem paying heavily for the forward but I think it will be more of an advantage to us if he stays here.
It will be very difficult to find a player to fill the Chilean’s boots if he is allowed to leave and there is no assurance that whoever comes in will live up to his standards.
I’ll urge Arsenal to ignore any idea of selling the Chilean and instead put all the energy on extending his contract.
Would you sell Sanchez for a huge fee or spend heavily to tie him down to a new contract?
