Goodbye Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain?- Star Replacement To Jet-In For Medicals

Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Arsenal are set to step up its interest in Benfica winger Goncalo Guedes, according to reports.

Wenger has been keeping tabs on the forward’s development and could now make a move for his services amidst fears that Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain could leave the Emirates.

Chamberlain is being linked with a £25m January move to Manchester City, although Wenger does not want to lose the England international, there are fears within the club that the player could be tempted to move to the Etihad.

Wenger doesn’t want to be caught off guard and has lined up Guedes as a potential replacement.

According to The Sun via The Metro, Arsenal scouts were present at Benfica’s games recently to watch the winger.

Guedes who has been key to Benfica’s rise to top of the Portuguese league table this season has shown he can be a strong replacement for Chamberlain but there would be a problem for Arsenal when trying to complete any deal for the Portuguese winger.

The player has a £52m release clause in his contract and it is very unlikely that Benfica would want to sell the player a lot lesser than his clause.

The Portuguese club have been able to get huge fees from the sale of their top players in the past, so I don’t think they would want to sell Guedes cheaply.

It remains to be seen whether Wenger will be forced to spend big on the youngster but knowing our history in the transfer market, that is unlikely to happen.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens at the end.
