Crystal Palace could make a move for Kieran Gibbs in the winter transfer window, according to The Sun.
Former England boss Sam Allardyce took charge of Palace last weekend and he is already preparing for the winter transfer window as he begins his task of getting the Eagles out of the danger zone.
Big Sam has reportedly made signing a left back his priority and is eyeing a move for Kieran Gibbs.
Gibbs has found himself in and out of Wenger’s starting xi this season and has only managed to make a handful of appearances.
His long-term future at Arsenal is in doubt after Wenger made signing a left back next summer his priority and Crystal Palace could make a move for the defender if Arsenal indicates any willingness to sell the defender in January.
Swansea City are another club interested in the player but a move to Palace could appeal more to the defender because of the opportunity to remain in London and also Palace’s chances of remaining in the PL is higher than that of the Swans.
Despite the serious interests in the defender, I do not think he will be allowed to leave the Emirates in January. The defender’s exit will leave Nacho Monreal as the only recognised left back in the squad and that will be too risky going into the second half of the season.
However, we may have no option but to sell him in the summer if he doesn’t sign a contract extension to his current deal. Gibbs contract expires at the end of next season and will definitely be the more vulnerable of the two left backs if things remain the way it is now and Wenger brings a new left back at the end of the season.
