Arsene Wenger has rubbished Debuchy claims that he blocked the defender’s move to Manchester United in January 2016.
Debuchy has made just one appearance for Arsenal this season and is being linked with a move away from the Emirates.
The French international has revealed he wants to leave the Emirates permanently this winter. He also claimed Wenger blocked his move to United last January but the boss has denied those claims.
Wenger cited the player’s lack of game time for his outburst, saying the Old Trafford club never made any bid to sign the defender.
He said, as reported by the Daily Star: “We speak. I communicate with all the players.
“It is a frustrated article from a player who is injured.
“When he had opportunity to play when Hector Bellerin was injured he was injured.
“If I gave him last year the opportunity to go to Bordeaux on loan but we had nobody coming in in the summer period.
“There are some things that are not true in his article so you have to take this article with a bit of distance.
“Manchester United didn’t make an offer for him. That is untrue.
“It is surprising to hear something like that”.
Wenger’s claims could be very true, it’s hard to see that a top club like Manchester United tried to sign the defender last year considering he was not playing at the time so there was no way he’d have improved a faltering Man Utd squad then.
Debuchy is expected to leave Arsenal for good this month and Wenger has indicated he will listen to offers for the defender.
