Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the development of Everton playmaker Ross Barkley whose future at the Goodison Park hangs in the balance.
Few seasons ago, Barkley was regarded by many as one of England’s brightest talent but the youngster has cooled off since last season. He has been in and out of Ronald Koeman’s starting xi this season and was even criticized in December by the Dutch tactician for his poor performances.
While securing a place in Koeman’s first team remains Barkley’s immediate priority, his long tem future is also a bit of concern.
The attacking midfielder has 18 months left in his contract and Everton are yet to offer him a new deal.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are aware of the midfielder’s contract situation at the Goodison park and are keeping tabs on his development.
Although a decision on the midfielder’s future is unlikely to be made until next summer, it is claimed that Tottenham could make an official bid this month.
The Long-term future of Mesut Ozil is currently in doubt and Barkley seems to be one of the players Wenger is keeping tabs on to replace the German.
I know this wouldn’t go down well with many Gooners because of the gulf in quality between Ozil and Barkley but the Everton man has the potential to become a top footballer in the future.
Wenger has successfully helped youngsters become top footballers in the past and one can’t help but imagine how great Barkley will be with us if we get it right with him.
Although, there was never a point in the original article where it was claimed Wenger will make a bid for the England international but I wouldn’t be shocked if it happens as Wenger has never hidden his desire to bring England’s top talents to the Emirates.
I would welcome a move for Barkley because of his huge potential and he is English but not as a replacement for Ozil, maybe as a back up for now.
